ISO
9000 or 9001?
What is
the international validity? To which branches does ISO
apply? What will ISO bring us? Who can issue the
certificates?
- these are
the most frequent questions which we answer at seminars
or by e-mail as asked by firms who begin to come across
the words ISO 9000. And our answer is ...
|
|
that ISO 9000
is a series of norms applying to the quality
management system. The most common norm according to
which certification is performed is marked
ISO 9001,
however the public and firms have begun to use the
marking ISO 9000 to simplify matters (although this
is not accurate). If somebody states that they hold
a certificate according to ISO 9000 or 9001, it
means one and the same thing.
|
|
|
International Validity.
ISO norms are international
norms which individual countries incorporate into their
national "technical legislation". Norms marked ISO 9001
or ČSN EN ISO 9001 or DIN EN ISO 9001 have the same
wording and requirements, and this means that the firm
which obtains a certificate from one country does not
need to re-establish fulfilment of the requirements in a
different country.The certificate has international
validity. |
|
Which
branches does the ISO 9000 encompass?
Norm ISO 9001 is a universal
norm and covers all branches of business, production and
services. The only thing that needs to be verified is
whether the certification company has the relevant
accreditation for the branch.
We provide the extent of accreditation in the following
table
(see the
branches of business)
of our certification body no.3016. This
extent covers virtually all branches and is identical to
our accreditation for the certification of the
environmental management systems according to ČSN EN ISO
14001 and for the certification of occupational health
safety and protection management systems according to
the specification of OHSAS 18001. This structure enables
those parties interested in certification to even select
some combination of a constantly more applied integrated
management system. |

|
What will ISO bring us?
The most frequent motive is the customer - consumer
requirement or the party calling a tender. The
introduction of the quality management system will,
on the other hand, bring you an increase in
management efficiency, improvement of organisation,
increase in morale in the company and particularly
the improvement of production and satisfaction of
your customers - i.e. higher profit and share of the
market. A further incentive for application with
regard to the customer - contractor relationship are
also the provisions of the Czech Republic's Act No.
40/2004 Coll. on the Award of Public Contracts -
Section 37 establishing the quality and fulfilment
of the requirement of the corporate management
system with regard to environmental protection.
|
|
Who will
issue the certificate?
Certification companies
undergo an audit and subsequent regular supervision by
accreditation companies, if they successfully meet the
requirements, they gain the
Certificate of Accreditation and thereby
the authorisation to issue certificates. Accreditation
is granted for individual
branches
of business.
Our certification body no. 3016 issued from 1.1.2004
to 30. 9. 2004 322 new certificates and achieved a total
number of 1026 certificates valid currently.
The certificates cover virtually all branches. The
biggest share consists of certificates in the
construction industry, trade, engineering, metalworking,
electrical engineering and transport. |
Norm ISO
9000:2000 was issued in 2000 ( adopted in the Czech
Republic as ČSN EN 9001:2001 ) and replaced the version
dating back to 1994 the validity of which expired on 15
December 2003. What are the main differences?
An
extension of orientation to services - the original
version of 1994 took into account the quality management
in industrial enterprises, orientated to serial
production. The new version brings an extension so it
may also be enforced in the services provision sphere.
The quality does not merely focus now on the parameters
of a product alone, but on the entire process of
satisfying the needs and ideas of the customer. |
|
Marketing-orientated.
Who determines whether a product or service is of
quality? Customers. The objective is not to achieve
the topmost parameters of a product or service, but
such parameters which the customer considers as
complying with his needs and also meets his idea of
quality. The firm will discover this information
only through very good marketing management which
becomes an integral part of quality management.
|
|
The
reduction of the amount of written documentation and
forms.
Modern
management relies constantly more on the knowledge
and experience of its employees and creativity of
its senior employees. The solution is less written
documentation and guidelines, more training and team
work.Computer technology will replace forms and
memos. |
|
Constant Improvements.
Innovation and changes are the only way to maintain
your customers. There is no need to come up with a
revolutionary solution, customers will not always
accept it, but introduce a constant minor
improvement, removal of shortcomings and search for
improvements for customers. It will not only bring
greater customer satisfaction, but also cost savings.Constant
improvement is a process which must be incorporated
into quality management.
|
|
Focus
on the Whole.
The management of a firm requires simple decision-making
and communication routes.Quality management cannot
focus merely on partial solutions of individual
features, it must be part of the overall management
of the firm. The new version of the norm allows
mutual integration of the quality management system
with other management systems. |
|
As a
certification company we greatly welcomed the
amendment of the norm and we were one of the first
to draw up methodology for the certification of a
more modern management system.
